I was a teacher of ESE, as well as Middle School Science, Gifted Education in Volusia County for 27 years. My original certificate included ESE K-12, Middle Grades Science, Gifted Ed K-12, and Physical Education K - 12. After 30 years I allowed it to expire because, after moving to Costa Rica, I had not planned on returning to teach in Florida. In order to be eligible to teach in Florida I have taken, and passed, the subject area tests for ESE, K - 12 and Middle Grades Science. They were officially posted on October 7, 2019 (according to the DOE website). My application for my new certificate has been completed at the DOE for ESE K-12, Middle Grades Science, and Physical Education.
I was employed by Volusia County as an 8th grade Science Teacher in November, 2019, and awarded a Certificate in Middle Grades Science and Exceptional Student Education. I was re-appointed for the 2020-2021 school year and requested, and was granted a leave of absence for the upcoming year due to the Covid 19 crises and returned to Costa Rica.
I sat for, and passed, Florida State exams in Exceptional Student Education, K-12 and Middle Grades Science and have been awarded a new Florida certificate. This is a temporary 3 year certificate and I will, over the next 3 years meet additional requirements to have my original certificate reinstated by completing 6 credits in applicable classes or sufficient in-service credits earned. During my time teaching in 2019-2021 I participated in numerous in-service courses and am currently waiting for a request from Volusia County Schols to determine if I have already have sufficient in-service points.
